I've been using Windows since 3.1.1 for WorkGroups. I recommend against ever doing an upgrade. You always wanna do a clean install between major versions. That would resolve this. I do agree with you that support was ended too early though.

I think it really depends on the machine you're using. On lower end hardware like what most schools have that rarely have more than 8 gigs of ram you're gonna feel that. The low end processors don't do any favors either. So on that lower end or older hardware that might have been unofficially hacked to install windows 11 you'll feel that sluggishness and laggyness. If you're on a machine with 16 gigs of ram or more and more than 4 cores on your processor you'll be fine.
