Description:

I gotta ask, what's the point of YouTube shorts if YouTube is extending videos to 3 minutes long? The idea of shorts is for short-formed content. If I wanted to watch something longer than 60 seconds, I'd go on normal YouTube. Also, when uploading content, videos that are below or at three minutes will be put in shorts, and you can't change that.

It is probably to compete with TikTok, just like YouTube shorts was in the first place. Creators upload TikToks to YT shorts because TikTok pays dogshit and YT does not, and also for maximum audience capture. Problem is, people make TikToks longer than 60 seconds all the time. The options you had before were to speed them up, or cut them off prematurely. Having 3 minutes of allowance now should catch the vast majority of shortform clips that were originally uploaded to TikTok as creators shift to YouTube shorts even more now, in preparation for the impending United States TikTok ban. So really your question should be, "why did TikTok start allowing 3-minute videos in 2021?"

Hi there, its Shaun here.
I think the hole point behind the hole you tube shorts thing was because they had to find some way of competing with that new craze, known as tick tock.

Yes, I know that there was some competition from TikTok in the beginning. but why extend from 60 minutes to three minutes? If we wanna watch longer videos than 60 seconds we could go to normal YouTube. I didn't mind tiktok allowing longer uploads, which is fine, I've done it myself. But short-formed content should be the same, since it is whare short videos go.

Nice to know I can look at the description and have this whole audio summarized within the matter of 20 seconds or less

the question Samantha and I still have, is that will tick tock actually be 100 percent band for whatever reason permanintly? I see things for you tube shorts pop up all the time and for us it kind of gets anoying.
I guess we'l have to see what will happen in future

International Friends Network I don't really think it'll be banned. Besides, according to Trump, he would look into saving it, although the date is still set for January 19.

Is this accurate? I watched a regular YT video that was a minute 20 earlier today, and, I could be misremembering, but I also think I watched a video that was 2 minutes 54.

not really sure, it seems very up and in the air at the moment, perhaps it wil be band or maybe it won't, who really can tell at the moment.

I highly doubt it's going to get banned. It's honestly youtubes way of copying tiktok. I use them because shorts have gripped a large portion of youtube and wanted to create quick audio skits that someone would enjoy. I think I'll put all of my Christmas shorts in one video at the end of the countdown.

Most shorts is gen-Z and gen-A humor aka brainrot, but some quality content can be found. Usually on channels that already serve quality content and are now branching out to shorts because as Giga sound said it's a good way to reach audiences these days due to them being so hooked to it, so it's like making best use of the resources you have.

Music.ly had short videos, until it was given to TikTok.
TikTok has short videos
Instagram and Facebook have reels
YouTube has Shorts
Vine also had those, but Vine was shut down.
In conclusion, this is something that has been done for years now.

I believe when watching a Youtube short in a browser, you can change the word "short" in the address bar to "watch" and it will act as a normal video.
