Description:

At about 5:00 this afternoon while I was sitting in my backyard, I heard a steadily increasing buzzing sound above me. At first I thought it was our neighbor flying his drone over the area, but since the buzzing seemed to be coming from nearly everywhere, it must have been a huge swarm of insects. Probably bees, and according to the noise maybe even a whole colony looking for a new home. Either way, it sounded pretty impressive, if not a little threatening. My 24/7 street microphones also picked up the swarm, unfortunately mixed with the sound of passing cars.

Probably a rare opportunity.

As someone who is allergic to bees this is absolutely freaking terrifying.

Curious, what setup do you use for your 24:7 microphones, do you have them clipped somewhere to your window with the mic cables beeing plugged into a recorder that's also running 24/7 or how do you do it? I would love to try given that I live near a bigger street and it would be fun seeing what's going on at times, especially saturday nights :D.

Ok bugs are scarry

They're swarming, they ain't gonna sting unless you get right up on 'em. They're more focused on finding a new place to live.

That said, I get creeped out by them too, so I'd probably be freaking out if that happened right above me. Though I did get a bunch of them on my arm once at my uncle's pool.

That right there, is death, or a serious visit to the ER, covered in chitin and packin a serious stinger. And that's a hole swarm. What a unique sound you have captured.
